9/29: Read the proper procedures for email correspondence. Emails without a subject, in this case the course number, will not be read, nor acknowledged by your instructor.

9:29: The first exam will cover the introduction through gene expression.

10/1: If a graph is properly constructed and labeled one should pretty much be able to figure out what the experiment was about. Here is a graph from one of my other classes. Can you describe the experiment from  it?

10/2: On Oct. 11, 9 pm the Discovery Channel will have a special on Ardi, a 4.4 million year old fossil human ancestor. Website for the program here.

10/2: TV alert. Saturday, Oct. 3rd on National Geographic Channel at 4 pm "Climbing Redwood Giants".

10/16:  If you have not been bringing your text to lab you should start doing so. Also read the lecture notes on systematics and Protista since we will begin looking at organisms in the lab on Monday Oct. 19. You might also find this site useful: http://arnica.csustan.edu/botany

10/19: Advising for Biology majors begins October 26. Be sure to visit the Biology advising page and follow the instructions.

10/19: Questions for the Intelligent Design trial are posted on the syllabus for those of you who want to get ahead.

10/28: "The Botany of Desire" a two hour PBS program on plants airing several time in the next few days. See the website for times and further information.

11/4: The second exam will cover Evolution (11) through Seedless Vascular Plants (17).

11/6: Thursday 11/12 is a furlough day so there is no class. Your assignment is to study the Gymnosperms notes. At the next class I will answer pre-prepared specific questions about gymnosperms, but I will not lecture on them.

11/6: Print out and bring the fruit key to lab on Monday 11/9.

11/12: One of our biology majors wrote a letter to the Modesto Bee regarding anti-evolution sentiment.
