Program Prerequisites 

The minimum requirements for nonprovisional entry into the program are as follows:

    -  B.S.in one of the Biological Sciences from an accredited college or university
            (program comparable to CSU-Stanislaus) 

    - undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher (4 pt. system) based on all records or last 60 units

    - provide transcripts of all undergraduate coursework

    - provide GRE General Exam results 

    - three letters of recommendation from university faculty members (and/or employers if appropriate)

    - résumé with cover letter (indicating career aspirations and research interests); 

    - approval for admission by the Department of Biological Sciences and the CSU Stanislaus Graduate School. 

A student whose undergraduate program is not similar to the BS in Biology at CSU Stanislaus maybe admitted to CSU Stanislaus in provisional status.  The student will then be required to take courses deemed necessary to complete his/her background studies, prior to further evaluation for admittance into the MS in Ecology and Sustainability. 

Additionally, there are certain specific prerequisite courses that are required for the program, concentrations, or later required courses.  These include:

Prerequisite Courses for Either Concentration: 

    MATH 1600 Statistics 4 units (or equivalent) 

    MATH 1410 Calculus 4 units (or equivalent) 

    BIOL 4680 Ecology 4 units (or equivalent) 

    BIOL 4300 Conservation Biology 3 units (or equivalent) 

Additional Prerequisite Courses for the Concentration in Ecological Economics: 

    ECON 2510 Principles of Microeconomics 3 units 

    AND ECON 2500 Principles of Macroeconomics 3 units 

    OR ECON 5050 Business and the Economic Environment 3 units 

For continuation in the program, an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher must be maintained. 

The Thesis or Project Proposal must be approved by the Faculty Graduate Committee before the thesis or project units can be taken. An oral thesis or project defense that includes a presentation before the Faculty Graduate Committee and open to the public is required.
