Herbarium Label
Below are two samples of the proper format for your herbarium labels. The second one shows the formatting marks. I recommend you always type in the "show formatting" mode.
Things to note:

The label is 4.5 inches wide, height is determined by how much text there is on it

Center "PLANTS OF CALIFORNIA" and "HERBARIUM OF...STANISLAUS"
-
"HERBARIUM OF...STANISLAUS" is in bold and takes up two lines
-
One space on both sides of dash in "UNIVERSITY - STANISLAUS"
-
Date is a right tab flush with the right border of the text

Abbreviation and punctuation after county, Co.:
-
Use family names ending in -aceae
-
Use author abbreviations, exactly as they appear in Jepson, for species names
-
Include elevation from topo maps
-
Use 12 pt. Times New Roman font or something similarly simple

Note date format: day, month, year
-
Cut the labels with a paper cutter and leave about 0.3 inch margins on all sides
Hint: set your top and left page margins to 0.3 inches to minimize cutting -
Do not use the space bar to position text on the page. Use only tabs and the center button

Have at least two of your fellow students proof your labels

Use a good printer with dark ink. If you do not have one then use a university printer

Do not copy the format, style or locality information from previous year's classes
-
These labels are purely fictional so don't copy them
