Either download the Good Stuff Article or read it online. To download, you have to register (it’s free), and sign up for news from Worldwatch. If you’re interested in staying informed about environmental issues, this is definitely worth doing.  In class next time, your group will choose one of the products to discuss in class. Be ready to discuss your answers.

First, read the Introduction and the Glossary of terms.

1. Ecolabeling and Green Procurement are two related ideas. How can they help reduce the negative environmental impacts of consumption?

2. Extended Producer Responsibility and Product Take Back are also related concepts. Discuss two products that you use that you would like to see these concepts applied to, and explain why.

Choose one of the topics from the list appliances to bicycles that interests you or applies to you and your lifestyle. Answer the following questions.

 3. What are the major environmental impacts or external costs (i.e. air pollution, water pollution, toxic compounds that effect human health, loss of wildlife habitat, etc.). resulting from the production, consumption, and/or disposal of the product? Summarize in your own words.

4. For the product you chose, are there any encouraging trends or changes taking place that will lessen the negative environmental impacts? Describe.

 5. How does this information or issue effect you, personally?
