Volunteer Planting Day
On March 21st, the Merced
National Wildlife Refuge will be having a native
vegetation volunteer planting day, meeting at 8:30 a.m. at the refuge
entrance information kiosk. We can use a lot of help, and encourage anyone
who is interested to participate.
Educators have found that refuge volunteer days are great opportunities to
offer students extra credit and strengthen classroom lessons with practical
experience. Students will gain hands-on experience with work in the
natural resources field. Additionally, it’s a good opportunity to meet
refuge personnel and ask questions about the profession.
The volunteer day is not limited to students – anyone who is interested is
invited to take part.
The event will occur on March 21st at the Merced NWR, meeting at 8:30 a.m.
at the Refuge’s main entrance information kiosk off of Sandy Mush Road.
From Highway 59, travel westbound on Sandy Mush Road 7.5 miles to the
Refuge entrance on the south side of the road.
.
The volunteer day is open to the general public and anyone interested in
participating should contact Jack Sparks at 209.826.3508 to confirm their
attendance and obtain detailed directions and additional information.
Volunteers should plan on working for approximately 5 hours and are
encouraged to wear clothing that can get dirty, including sturdy,
waterproof footwear.
Thanks for passing along word about this refuge event and please don't
hesitate to contact me with questions.
