19 April 2008
Naraghi Hall of Science
Background: CalPaleo is an annual, informal, friendly, regional paleontology conference; it is a great forum for graduate and undergraduate students, as well as for professionals, to present their research. Paleontology is by nature interdisciplinary, so talks and posters may include topics ranging from paleoecology, evolution, geology, paleoclimate, dinosaurs, anatomy, and on fossils ranging from China to California.
Date: Saturday April 19, 2008, 9 AM to 5 PM. There will be a full day of talks and posters.
Keynote Speaker: Dr. Scott Sampson, renowned paleontologist and host of the "Dinosaur Planet" series on the Discovery Channel.
Abstracts: Abstracts are due by 5 PM on Friday, 29 February. Submit abstracts as an email attachment to Julia@geology.csustan.edu. Abstracts should be no more than 250 words and should include the major facts, ideas, and conclusions of your research paper. Do not include literature citations. Abstracts will be reviewed, published, and available in a abstract volume the day of the conference. In your email, tell us if you prefer to have a poster or platform presentation. We will try to accommodate your request, depending on number of abstracts received. We will email you by 14 March about whether your presentation will be a talk or a poster.
Registration: 8:00 - 9:00 AM. Registration for participants is $20 (cash or check). Registration costs will pay for the abstract volume and lunch. There is no charge for non-participants.
Talks: The platform session will be in Naraghi Hall 101. Each speaker will have 15 minutes, with an additional 5 minutes for questions. Presentations should be prepared in PowerPoint and saved on a CD. The file name must include your last name. Label the CD and hand it to either Terry Jones or Julia Sankey when you register Saturday morning.
Posters: The poster session will be on the first floor of Naraghi Hall. Each poster space will be 4.5’ wide X 3’ high.
Students, faculty, and interested members of the community are invited to attend.
