Annadel State Park, Santa Rosa, CA

January 15, 2005

We had a great time today at Annadel. It was a bit cold and damp at the start but when the sun came out it was pretty nice. Every time the others stopped I went ahead to take photos and to also stay reasonably close to them. However, as Jrm was finishing fixing his flat at the top of Warren Richardson, I said I'd go down North Burma a bit and wait at a scenic spot to photograph them as they went by. When they didn't show up a half hour later I went back up and they were gone (they went back down Warren Richardson). I stopped to watch about 15 Tom turkeys courting perhaps 40 hens. It was pretty cool and I wish I had my DSLR with even a short telephoto. The hens were in the woods and trees while the Toms were out in the open. They wouldn't let me get very close so I did the best I could with my P&S camera. I then went back down North Burma all the way to Channel Drive. I hadn't been on the lower part of North Burma since my first ride at Annadel and I forgot how very steep and gnarly it is. It was also a muddy mess and very slippery. But I had a good time on it. I have been practicing downhill switchbacks lately and for the first time ever I made the one on Lawndale, with considerable ease.

Foggy at the start: UncleMTB, Jrm, GuruAtma, Plim
