What a true friend, today Cohenfive gave up a great ride with a big crew at Annadel, in order to accompany me on my first mtbr ride in 13 months, at Auburn. It was occasionally a bit overcast and cool, but most of the time it was very nice and the trails were in pretty good shape. We did the Foresthill Divide Loop and then the Connector out and back for 19 or so miles. Cohenfive really made me work, I regained a bit of confidence, and for the first time in over a year I felt like a mountain biker again. There were quite a few riders out there and Zon recognized me from the rear, presumably from my tortoise-like pace.

The knees felt pretty good and I finally got back to using my middle ring. But it will be a few days before they let me know if this was a bad idea. If not, I hope to return next week and to try climbing out of the ravine for the usual 25 miler. Two weeks ago at Auburn I wore my 4th different set of new knee pads (Dainese - 3X), for a few minutes, but I gave up on them because they really cut me up in just the first few minutes. At a price of nearly $100, I thought I'd give them another try, so today I wore big Band-Aids under the rough spots. That worked fairly well and the knee pads were quite comfortable. In a day or so I'll learn if I am allergic to them.

Since I was behind most of the time Cohenfive took most of the photos and hopefully he'll have a few to add soon. Thanks Dick for a great ride and sticking with me!

Obligatory bridge shot

Hopefully I'll climb this next week.
