Phil's Trail System
Bend, Oregon
July 11, 2011

The knees were still pretty sore from the McKenzie River Trail ride two days ago so I wanted something fairly easy. There is an extensive series of well marked trails west of Bend that looked pretty easy. I woke up well before dawn, planning to get a sunrise start. However, something I ate the previous day gave me some significant intestinal problems and I did not get out until about 6:30 am. I started from Phil's Trailhead and intended to do a big loop starting on Mrazek. On the map it looked like I could get there but I ran into some private property and several fences. So I went back and then up Bens Trail. That was pretty easy so I decided to try some climbing and went up to the Heli Pad. I eventually came down Phils and Kents Trails back to the start. With the exception of 2-3 technical spots toward the Heli Pad, the trails were quite smooth and very easy and through mostly pine forests. Even though it was a Monday, by the time I finished at about 10:15 am, the trailhead was packed with cars, runners and bikers. Most of the trails looked the same so I only took a few photos. Here is the trail system map.
