Cannell Trail & Cannell Plunge

Today I had a great ride on the Cannell Trail/Plunge with Octane, Maddog and Carcusshucker. This is a fairly arduous and sometimes technical ride which starts high in the Sierras about two hours east of Bakersfield, CA. After being dropped off at 9,200 ft. you then ride up and down a good bit on the Cannell Trail, going up to 9,500 ft., for about 20 miles. Then you reach the Cannell Plunge, which drops about 5,000 ft in seven miles. There are about two more miles to ride into town.

The winds were pretty strong and it was a bit nippy at the 9,200 ft. drop-off point. But once we got going the temperature felt about perfect. Carcusshucker has some amazing skills and he kept us quite entertained with stunts. Too bad the camera could not capture them adequately. Maddog was pretty strong on the uphills and Octane and Carcusshucker were really strong on the downhills, but they stayed fairly close to me. Those high altitude Tahoe rides I've been doing all summer seem to have paid off. The ride was not as difficult as my past 10 rides here, I made a few more uphill sections than before, and I felt really strong at the finish. Since I took the helmet cam and we were moving fairly quickly, I did not take many photos. However, Octane convinced me to turn the helmet cam around and I got some great footage I'll post soon.
