Cannell Trail & Cannell Plunge

Today Impy, Al (Aosty), Jim (Lamerider) who came in from Georgia again, and I did the Cannell Trail and Cannell Plunge. It was a spectacular day, perhaps 70 degrees, and with beautiful blue skies. Strapping on a helmet cam and trying to follow some very good riders has really improved my riding abilities lately. I used to have to walk quite a bit of the techy stuff on the Cannell Trail but this time I probably walked no more than three very short sections on the entire trail. However, I still have quite a few problems with those gnarly switchbacks at the bottom of the Plunge. The mile long fireroad climb out of Big Meadow seemed almost easy, the two long hike-a-bikes didn't seem quite as bad for me this time, and Impy rode most of the way up them. Al is quite fit and quite skilled and his biggest challenge seemed to be staying awake while waiting for the rest of us. But he was pretty patient and hung with us most of the time. I got the distinct the impression Jim thought the trip from Georgia was well worth it.
