Olmstead Loop at Cool

January 7, 2001

Today Kip and I did two loops, one in each direction, around the Olmstead Loop, which starts behind the fire station at Cool. The trail consists of nearly 10 miles of singletrack, doubletrack and a bit of dirt roads. With the exception of two granny climbs on very loose surfaces, it is fairly easy and requires no technical skills. However, there are enough ups and downs, little patches of rock and nice scenery to make it a worthwhile ride. The weather was nearly perfect, just the right temperature to keep us from overheating. Only one incident to report. Kip fell on the rockiest part of the steepest climb and barely missed falling on quite a nasty rock. It is worth noting that there were a  lot of equestrians on the trails but everyone was quite polite and considerate of one another. I can only provide a topo map of the general area.
