Commemorative Emigrant Trail
Lake Tahoe CA, Oct. 9, 2010

After being off the bike for most of the last three months I needed just a good aerobic ride to begin getting back into shape. Today I did a 27 mile ride with Mark and Kip on the Commemorative Emigrant Trail, north of Truckee, California. This is a very scenic, rolling single-track trail with no technical portions. Except for a few mildly extended, gradual climbs, this would be a great trail for most beginners or those just wanting to get in some continuous pedaling. It was pretty cool and a bit foggy at the start, and all of us had numb fingers for the first few miles. But once the sun got up a bit higher it was a spectacular day. I loaded a 25 mile ride from Garmin Connect into my GPS and practiced following it, the first time I've done so. However, I did not want to cross a stream that looked a bit too cold and deep, so we added about two miles going around it. I'm still a bit afraid of falling, so this was a great ride for just getting in some extended pedaling without worrying about falling. I normally lock the GPS once started, but fooling around with it I apparently stopped it about 5.5 - 6 miles from the end of the ride. But Kip got about 27 miles too.

Ride stats, add about 5.5 - 6 miles.
