New Melones (GH) Recreation Area

March 30/31, 20001

After two weeks off due to a cold and banging my head on a low hanging branch at Dry Creek, it was good to get out on the trails on March 30. Eighty degree temperatures, coupled with marginally functioning lungs, caused me to take it pretty easy. I did every loop once, except the Angels Creek and Buckbrush, both of which I did twice. The wildflower displays on the Angels Creek trail were so spectacular that I came back the next day with my camera. Since I was in a picture taking mood I decided to go down the Tower Climb and take some pictures of the switchbacks (SB). As usual, they never quite capture the steepness of hills but I did the best I could. They are numbered starting from the bottom up. Here is the map.
