Sedona, Arizona
June 5, 2008

In celebration of the first anniversary of my first knee replacement UncleMTB and I took a road trip to Sedona and Grand Canyon, Arizona, as well as Hurricane, Utah. I'll post each ride separately. Traildoc agreed to show us a bit of Sedona singletrack but he was stuck with a dilemma, I'm a total klutz on technical stuff, but he was hosting two Germans, who were top notch riders. Directly from the parking lot he took us on one of his special trails that was quite narrow, very gnarly, and had many quick ups and downs, as well as several other significant surprises. It was way over my head and given that I'm especially slow to warm up, it was even more difficult. It was a spectacular trail but I only got a couple photos because I was just doing my best to survive. After we finished it UncleMTB and I split off to explore on own own. Thanks traildoc, and nice to meet the other folks!

After about an hour I became a bit more accustomed to Sedona riding and we had a great time. We occasionally got a bit lost so we took a trail down to the Bike and Bean to buy a trail map. We were out the entire day and I believe we hit every trail except Submarine Rock. Several hours into the ride we ran into traildoc and his group again. The weather was nearly perfect and the scenery and lush, still green vegetation were spectacular. Both of us were especially impressed with the Llama Trail, which was quite challenging, but mostly doable, even for me. My Canon 20D DSLR is just too bulky and heavy to carry and I expected to fall a few times, so I only took my P&S camera (Canon SD800). Fortunately, however, it is nearly impossible to take a bad photo at Sedona. UncleMTB just bought a Canon Digital Rebel, which is fairly light and compact, so he took it along. Below are a few of my photos, and a few shot by UncleMTB with his camera. Unless otherwise noted the photos were taken with my P&S camera. It doesn't do very well with macros so I missed a lot of great flower shots the entire trip.
