2011 in review

After ruining my knees from years of running and undergoing five surgeries, I decided to try mountain biking in 2000. I really got into it and I made remarkable progress over the course of a year. However, both knees went out again in May 2001. I had surgeries six and seven in November of 2001, and after a six month recovery period and a full year off, I returned to the trails in May of 2002. I managed to average about one ride a week until February 2007. MRIs showed absolutely no cartilage under either patella and I had total knee replacements in June and July of 2007. After about seven months of riding the knees hurt too much and I stopped riding for two years. My knee pain still persisted and I had a Spinal Cord Stimulator (SCS) implant in July 2010.

Although the central valley of California, where I live, is quite flat, it is centrally located between the Coast Ranges and Sierra Nevada mountains of California, both of which provide superb mountain biking experiences. I post on mtbr.com as Wherewolf.
