Iron Angel Mountain Bike Race
March 3, 2002
Since I still can't ride I decided to try my hand at photographing a mountain bike race. The Iron Angel race was held at New Melones (GH) Recreation area, my "hometown track". It was both depressing and exciting to be on trails I used to ride twice a week. I hadn't been out there since my knees went out in May 2001. I was about ready to give up on riding but I have been inspired to wait until mid May, which will mark one year off and six months since my surgeries. It was a spectacular day and I had forgotten how nice the trails were out there. Since I can't hike much I set up at about four different places along the easy-to-walk-to trails. This was my first attempt at shooting moving objects, next time I'll do better. I've included photos of several people I've ridden with and just a sampling of the more than 1,000 photos I took. Most photos were taken with a 100 mm macro, a few were taken with a 17-35 mm zoom. The images are much reduced and cropped for web viewing. If you want a bigger original for printing email me. If you think I have a photo of you email me with a description of what your were wearing and the bike your were riding. Here is the route map.
